Wedding Traditions are Better with Ribbons

A wedding is a day for celebrating love, joy and the families that come together. And, what better way to bring two families together than wedding traditions? Whether it is a tradition handed down for many generations or something the special couple has chosen for themselves, it is a time to celebrate their love for each other.

Every detail should be just right, from finding the perfect dress to picking the right venue. While there is much to do, here are a few fun traditions we discovered that will have added meaning when you incorporate custom ribbons. So try these out, or suggest them to a friend about to tie the knot.

Handfasting Ceremony Traditions

handfasting ceremonies are just one of the many traditions performed at weddings

This particular ceremony is becoming increasingly popular but has strong, traditional roots. No matter why the bride and groom chose this ceremony, it always involves cords or ribbons. The word handfasting has given us phrases such as “tying the knot” and “bonds of matrimony.” It signifies the joining of the individuals involved. During the ceremony, the bride and groom weave ribbons together using their chosen colors, messages and symbols.

Make sure everyone feels involved by including small trinkets, such as charms, into the ribbon weave or braid. Each trinket should be unique, from favorite colors to symbols representing different events in the couple’s lives. Another way to include everyone is to have various family members, such as mom/dad or grandma/grandpa, place different parts of the ribbons around the couple’s hands.

Why not make this an even more unique and individualized experience? Customize your ribbon rolls before braiding them together in the traditional manner. Choose names, dates, sayings or anything involving the couple getting married. Consistent with tradition, the bride and groom will have individual ribbons wrapped around their clasped hands. So, the ribbon imprint should be unique to the couple and individualized to the person. This personalization will help signify the joining of the two in marriage.

The Cake Pull

While this tradition is often found in the American South, it still fits in for nearly any wedding. Customizing the ribbons to match the pulls adds a specific and unforgettable charm. So, what is a cake pull?

cake pulls are a fun way to incorporate southern traditions into your wedding

A cake pull, sometimes also known as a ribbon pull, is a New Orleans wedding tradition not unlike the bouquet toss. The bride gathers a number of her single or eligible female friends around the wedding cake. Inserted into the wedding cake are various charms with ribbon tails. After a count of three, each of the women pulls a ribbon, exposing a charm. The charm is meant to signify the puller’s future.

There are eight classic charms historically used for ribbon pulls, each with its own meaning. The ring (which indicates the next to get married), the horseshoe or the four-leaf clover (signifying good luck), the telephone (offering good news), the anchor (encouraging hope), the heart (indicating impending love), the thimble or the button (revealing the old maid), and the penny (meaning poverty). While these are the charms used most often, a cake pull can have up to twenty different charms for the various single friends of the bride.

The charms are usually inserted into the bottom layer of the cake (after it is baked, but before it is frosted) and are often made of sterling silver to be a keepsake for the woman who pulled it. Many brides provide bracelets as gifts for the charm to be worn on.

Now, you can take this fun filled tradition and make it your own. Personalize small ribbons attached to each charm with memorable, custom text before baking them into the wedding cake.

Accessories & Traditions

From trading out traditional flowers for a ribbon filled embroidery hoop to adding custom ribbons to jewelry, every wedding will be perfect with personalized ribbons. Here are some great ideas to add to your new traditions.

add something blue and keep in line with wedding traditions using custom ribbons on shoes

Make a statement during the wedding by braiding custom ribbons into the bride’s hair instead of a veil. And remember the bride’s maids and flower girls. Let them in on some of the ribbon fun. Give them ribbons to carry with their flowers, or weave some custom ribbons into jewelry as a statement piece.

Need something blue for the bride? Order custom blue ribbon rolls and tie big, beautiful bows to her wedding shoes. Keep the traditions alive with blue ribbons in the bride’s bouquet or throughout her accessories. From the garter to a small piece of ribbon tacked inside the hem of her wedding dress, help that special gal find something blue for her special day.

And don’t stop there! Add these pretty ribbons to embellishments for all the dresses and suits for the wedding party. Yes, it is traditional to use flowers, but incorporate ribbons to make everything even better. Even the men at the wedding party can be part of these fun traditions.

Honoring Dad: the Man, the Myth, the Legend

Do you have the best dad ever? Let us help you show him how much you care!

Finding the perfect way to celebrate dad is sometimes an uphill battle. And finding a gift, that’s another problem (try an executive desk wedge). But, once you have found that perfect gift for dad, let us help you with the perfect presentation.

Use ribbons to make your Father’s Day like no other. And, they go perfect with nearly any wrapping. From tying the perfect bow, to figuring out the gift wrapping, everything is better with ribbon. So, head on over and grab a classic blue ribbon and get started. Or, choose your dad’s favorite color so he knows just how much you care. No matter your ribbon choice, we’re sure to have the perfect fit. And here are some ways to make it happen.

Custom Ribbon Rolls for Your Dad

Father's Day ribbon with a special message for dad

From a special hand-made card to wrapping the perfect present, your dad is sure to love your use of custom ribbon rolls. While blue is a classic color for this spectacular holiday, we have an abundance of colors to choose from. So, grab his favorite color and treat your dad to a specially wrapped present today.

Whether it’s in a box or a bag, simple ribbon bows are the perfect type of gift presentation. Wrap the ribbon roll all the way around your gift and try these simple bows now.

Classic Gift Bow

use custom ribbon rolls to make a classic gift bow for your dad on Father's Day

Probably the easiest to tie bow is this classic, go-to look. It’s the same type of bow we all know from when we learned how to tie our shoes as kids. Start by taking the length of desired ribbon and create two loops. Most likely you will make this bow with the same ribbon you wrap around the present or gift box. Second, cross the loops, one in front and one behind. Bring one of the loops through the hole that has been created (almost a third loop, at the bottom). Pull both sides to form the bow.

Classic Pom-Pom Gift Bow

use custom ribbon rolls to make a classic pom-pom gift bow for your dad on Father's Day

Pom-pom bows are the fullest type of gift bows and are typically used for larger gifts. To make this bow, you will need one very long piece of ribbon. Two colored (each side is a different shade) or printed ribbon is perfect to use for this type of bow. Also, the longer the piece of ribbon, the fuller and bigger the bow will be. Start by folding the ribbon in half to find the middle of the ribbon. Once you have the middle, twist the ribbon once and create a loop on one side.

Do this for both sides until you have the same number of loops on each side with some ribbon remaining for the tails. Once you reach this step, take a smaller length of the same ribbon and tie it around the center of the bow (where you were twisting the loops) to secure the whole thing. Once it is secure, make sure the tails are the same length and then gently pull the loops apart to make the pom-pom.

Hand-Made Cards

From a woven look to embellishments, ribbons are perfect for cards. Add his favorite color or the classic blue to your message to your dad. He’s sure to love it! And, when you add personalized ribbon to a card as an embellishment, it creates a 3D effect and makes everything stand out.

Show your dad how much you care by mixing in ribbons on your homemade greeting card. Not only have you now created your own personalized card unique to your father, but you should still have plenty of the personalized ribbons to wrap any presents that coordinate with the card!

Don’t forget the personalization!

Use fun phrases like Happy Father’s Day or To the Best Daddy for your custom ribbon rolls. Make sure to use something that will make your dad proud to be yours. Add names and dates to really make the ribbon roll personalized to that special father figure in your life.

Hosting the Fundraiser of the Year

From getting branding exposure to helping with a fundraiser and promoting products and services, giving back to the community is hugely beneficial for our business. But, it isn’t about what we get in return for our efforts. It’s all about who we are helping.

Building trust, helping those in need and understanding our community are where we try to put our focus. We invest in our community by donating our time and products. So, ring a bell and give a hearty hello to our latest donation recipient: Ladies Leukemia League, Inc. and their annual Fête de Noël fundraiser.

Ladies Leukemia League, Inc.

The Ladies Leukemia League, Inc. is an organization of 225 women who have dedicated themselves to the purpose of raising funds for leukemia research. Proceeds from early fundraising efforts were donated to the new leukemia ward at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and also to local leukemia research efforts. This later expanded to include leukemia research efforts in the Gulf South region, which includes Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

Ladies Leukemia League, Inc.

(Since the society’s inception in 1969 they) have raised over $3.6 million in “pilot” or “seed” money for research scientists working in leukemia and lymphoma research, or related fields. The organization was incorporated in 1971 and became known as the Ladies Leukemia League, Inc. (LLL).

LLL, Inc. has gained the reputation of being an organization of dedicated women volunteers making a genuine and meaningful contribution to finding a cure for leukemia. The annual luncheon and fashion show, always enhanced by various drawings for special prizes, has had recent attendance of close to 1100 people; it has grown bigger and better with age.

DYNA Satin Ribbon: Continuous Printing

DYNA Satin Ribbon has a medium soft feel and a slight sheen that makes it easier to work with than regular acetate ribbon. And, as it is 100% polyester, it won’t fray or tear. Customize this beautiful ribbon choice with a logo and text repeated along the entire length of the ribbon to make it the perfect choice for finishing baskets, boxes, bags and floral arrangements.

Melba Bruce, Co-President of Ladies Leukemia League, Inc., said, “The ribbon donation will help defray the cost of LLL’s Fête de Noël, the premier fundraiser for the holiday season. (We are using it) to support bells distributed to guests, Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at the fundraiser.”

LLL ordered red ribbon with a gold imprint with “50th Anniversary Ladies Leukemia League 2019” printed on the ribbon to celebrate the 50th year since the inception of LLL.

Fashionable Ribbons and a donation to Spina Bifida Texas

From getting branding exposure to making ribbons fashionable and promoting products and services, giving back to the community is hugely beneficial for any business. But, it isn’t about what you get in return for your efforts. It’s about who you are helping.

And, here at Coller Industries, we understand that helping out in our community is fashionable. The best thing we get back when we give is the knowledge that we have helped someone. Investing in the community by donating our products is one of our best forms of marketing. But again, it isn’t just about the marketing possibilities; it’s about the people. So, no matter the need, every donation we make comes with the knowledge that what we do is important for everyone.

custom badge ribbons are a fashionable item to have at any event

Elizabeth Rivera, Project Coordinator for the SBTX FashionABLE event, provided this excellent description of the organization and event.

FashionABLE (as in “I am able”) is a one-of-a-kind program that started 12 years ago. SBTX partners high school design students with children who have disabilities. The high school students are tasked with creating a garment specific to the child’s needs. Children with physical disabilities and their families face challenges in many areas, and this is frequently true where clothing is involved. These children often have self-esteem issues, especially with their physical appearance as it may not be what society considers the ‘norm.’ Their bodies may not be proportional and finding clothing that fits is difficult.

Mobility issues require that many children use orthotics or prosthetics to assist them in their daily activities. These devices are often bulky, which also poses a problem when trying to find clothing. Many of these children have issues with fine motor skills and buttons and zippers sometimes become an obstacle when they try to dress independently. Some of the children are totally dependent on their caregivers for all their needs and finding clothing that is easily slipped on and off is sometimes difficult. Our program was developed to address these issues in an innovative way.

Creating a “FashionABLE” Community

Understanding our community needs teaches that no matter the setting, there are things to constantly focus on to keep it healthy. In order to help people feel that they belong somewhere, we support and manage these insights. And this comes with accepting each other and the diversity of those around you. This community understanding makes us responsible for those around us. This community responsibility not only aids those in need, but assists everyone influenced by any actions in that community. And, we think that is just like this organization: fashionable!

Donations are one way that makes us more responsible in our community. And, building trust in our community is not only a requirement but also the best way to maintain any community. This unified trust is why we, as a company, are always looking to help out in our neighborhood and surrounding areas.
